Since the spring, Obama family has been spending this global pandemic and quarantine together. In recent interviews, Michelle Obama has revealed that when it comes to quarantine fatigue, her family—particularly her daughters—are no exception.
In September, while she was working to help get out the vote this election season for When We All Vote, Obama shared the details of her family’s relatable quarantine with Conan O’Brien.
“We kind of had phases of COVID,” she said. “There was sort of the early stages where we were all being organized and we would spend the days apart doing our respective work. The girls were still in classes in the spring, and so we would be working and then doing a little exercise, and then come together in the evenings. We would have these activities. We would have cocktails, and then we would work puzzles, and play games.”
She added that they even had an art exhibit day where each family member worked on a watercolor and then displayed their work. But, as the rest of us can probably attest, this fun quarantine time only lasts so long.
“I think first our kids got a little sick of us, which was fine because we were pretty much sick of them, and so the summer started happening, and then we could be outside a little bit more,” she said. “We came to the vineyard where we still are and so there’s more room to roam around…and that was good because it helped us break it up. And now the kids are back in Zoomland, in classes, and they’re doing it remotely. They’re no longer thrilled about being with us.”

“Things are confusing, not quite safe,” she told Jennifer Lopez during an Instagram Live conversation in September. “Even if they’re sick of me.”
“Your wife, Michelle, told me that you are afraid of Sasha; is that true?,” Jimmy Kimmel asked Obama in an interview last week.
“Yes. And the reason is because Sasha is a mini Michelle, and I’m afraid of Michelle, and Sasha, having seen that, has the same look and the same attitude. Malia is more like me temperamentally. We call ourselves ‘the long faces’ because her face is more shaped like mine. ‘The round faces’ are Michelle and Sasha. And the round faces are a fiercer tribe. We’re like the vegetarians—the gatherers, and they’re the hunters. We try to keep the peace with them.”
