After teasing long blonde hair at the People’s Choice Awards this past weekend, Demi Lovato fully committed to light hair—and completely changing her look. The singer teased her new half-shaved, short blonde hair on her Instagram. “I did a thing…” she teased, sharing a shot of her new hairstyle from the back.

Lovato’s hair change comes after she joked about her broken engagement and her year quarantining during her opening monologue at the awards show. Her speech made media headlines, as it was Lovato’s first time really addressing the end of her relationship with former soap opera actor Max Ehrich publicly. The two got engaged after less than five months of dating in July, and ultimately ended things in September as Lovato started doubting Ehrich’s intentions. Their split came shortly after Ehrich’s past Instagram posts and tweets lusting after female celebrities like Selena Gomez and others went viral, with fans accusing him of being a clout chaser.

Lovato said, “I am so excited to be here tonight because honestly, this year has been the longest three years of my life. Don’t get me wrong, it started out amazing. I performed at the Grammys and sung the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Thank you! But then COVID hit and everything shut down, so I did what everyone else did, I went into lockdown mode and got engaged. I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of Postmates Unlimited. I also didn’t know this could happen, but I reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got unengaged, and then I went looking for aliens in the desert, so basically the same as everyone else.”
