On June 14, a sea of thousands wearing white gathered in support of the Black trans community outside the Brooklyn Museum. The large-scale rally arrived after the murders of two Black trans women—Dominique “Rem’Mie” Fells of Philadelphia and Riah Milton of Cincinatti, Ohio. Their deaths are two of 14 reported murders of trans and gender non-conforming people in the first half of 2020, according to the Human Rights Campaign. However, the organization notes that the number of deaths of trans people are likely underreported. Last year, the HRC counted at least 26 deaths due to fatal violence, “the majority of whom were Black transgender women.”

In Los Angeles on Sunday, thousands marched during an All Black Lives Matter protest, which honored Tony McDade, a black transgender man fatally shot by Tallahassee police on May 27. Chicago was the site for a Drag March for Change on the same day, which included speeches from 12 different speakers. A surge of demonstrations in solidarity with the Black trans community comes amid global protests for the Black Lives Matter movement, following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery by police.

Here’s how you can help support the Black trans community. Ahead, powerful images of those protesting for Black trans lives from the past weekend.
