15 Small Businesses to Shop This Holiday {and then some!}

5 min read

Now is the time more than ever when our small businesses need us.

Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing one small business after another have to close its doors to do Covid-19. Because we do a lot of #sponsored content on this blog for the Amazon, Shopbop and Nordstrom’s of the world {gotta pay my bills yo!}, I wanted to also really call out the small businesses that I have known, loved and worn for many years.

You have probably seen many of these brands without realizing it, which is why I’ve included photos of me wearing the pieces from the past. It was a fun little walk down memory lane!

Last year I opened a limited edition pop-up shop at Platform Culver City called By Damsel where I carried labels and products from many of my small business owner friends. I am disheartened that we will not be opening our doors this year, due to the woes of 2020, however I still wanted to shed some light of the many small businesses that I know, love and have shopped for many years.

I know many of you are looking to support small businesses this holiday season – here are a few favorites you may know and may also love! The feature image is of me wearing an oldie but goodie dress by Cynthia Rowley. Another amazing smaller business based in New York.

1212

Listen, I am the Creative Director for 1212 for a reason. I truly believe in this 100% organic cotton clothing brand that June wears and loves since she was a newborn. The best part? Every purchase you make on 1212 gives back to a family in need through Baby2Baby. We have some amazing options not only for new parent’s to be, but we size from NB up to 6T! Be sure to head over to our website as things tend to sell out quickly!

Retrouvai

One of my nearest and dearest friends of over 12 years and counting is Kirsty, the creator and designer behind Retrouvai. Her modern heirlooms are truly timeless. Any time we have a special anniversary, birthday or big gifting moment on the horizon, Grant always knows to reach out to Kirsty. I love everything she does and every piece she designs! When I ran my pop-up shop, ByDamsel, Kirsty was so kind to allow me to carry a few of her pieces which sold like hot cakes!

Klur

Sustainably manufactured in the US, this beautiful beauty line makes one of my favorite serums. They have a ton of products to pick from that would be great gifts for the beauty buff in your life.

Heidi Merrick

Heidi and I go way, way back. In fact, she was the very first designed I ever reached out to when I started my blog asking to collaborate. We grabbed lunch one day and I asked if I could borrow some of her clothes to shoot and post in exchange for the borrow? Of course, she said “yes!” I’ve always loved Heidi’s California cool vibe. If you’re looking for a laugh, check out this video we created together featuring a few more bloggers faces you might recognize – ha!

Knickey

I love this organic cotton undies line so much, that it was another one of the lines that I carried in my store last year. I rarely post what I’m wearing underneath my clothes but Knickey is a brand you’ll find in my top drawer at home.

Jade Swim

I learned and fell in love with Jade Swim this year and I am officially hooked. I love how easy it is to mix and match their styles and they fit amazingly well.

Off Hours

A friend of mine recently launched an amazing bourbon brand called “Off Hours.” I absolutely love the taste, the branding and the overall vibe.

Janessa Leone

If it’s not a Janessa Leone hat, I’m prrrrrobably not interested. Not only has Janessa been a friend for many years, but she make the absolute best hats and accessories imaginable. You know those people who always look 100% chic and put together even when they’re dressing casual? That’s Janessa. I always want every single thing she wears and does.

JW Pei

Fashion forward, affordable, LA based, made with fabric made from recycled plastic bottles… need I say more? Meet JW Pei. You can see the beautiful bag I purchased below.

Sophie Monet

Any time I’m looking to really jazz things up a bit, I reach for my Sophie Monet jewelry. Talk about the epitome of cool girl style. Sophie’s dad is a sculpture and their share a studio space in Los Angeles. She works had to keep sustainability at heart in her unique and earthly designs.

Marysia

You may or may not already be familiar with this darling swimsuit line called Marysia. The Polish-born, former ballerina and long time surfer, Marysia, transformed her childhood uniforms into fashionable swimwear line. She is the nicest person with impeccable taste!

The ODELLS

Right after June was born, Grant and I launched a his and hers collection with The ODELLS. Their website is amazing because it not only carries their in house collections, but they have a ton of accessories, soaps and lifestyle products from local artisans that you can support too!

Amenda Beauty

This is a brand that I was introduced to just this year and boy am I sad that I was missing out. I now check their website regularly to take in their newest arrivals, beautiful branding and make a few necessary purchases.

Lalo

Another amazing brand if you have kiddo’s is Lalo. We are so obsessed with our new play table. It’s June’s favorite!

AMO Denim

I have loved AMO Denim for many, many years and it is hands down the best fitting pair of jeans I own. I’m now more recently obsessed with their Babe Tees.
